Don began playing trombone at the age of 14 and only had a few formal lessons before deciding to go it alone and teach himself. Although Don is now retired he certainly is a busy gentleman when it comes to his music making!

Don not only finds time to play for Felling Band but is also a member of Tim Garlands Northern Underground Orchestra, plays in the backing band for The Four Tops and is lead trombone with The George Bradley Big Band. Don has previously played with Ray Chester's Big Band winning 2nd Prize nationally in the BBC Big Band Competition, this is an achievement Don is very proud of.

In his time, Don has also backed many famous artists including: Sting, The Three Degrees, Cliff Richard, Bruce Forsyth, Brenda Lee, Neil Sedaka, Gene Pitney, Harry Secombe, Ronnie Corbett, Frankie Vaughan, John Miles & Tony Christie. Don recalls his most memorable musical moment as playing in the presense of Prince Charles, Princess Anne & Princess Margaret.

As a relative new comer to the Brass Band scene, Don has played with the Band for 2 years now. Don originally joined the Band for one competition and has stayed ever since not only because he thoroughly enjoys playing for the Band but because the precision required for Brass Band playing is improving his overall playing technique.

In the very small amount of spare time he has, Don enjoys fine wine, eating out and concert going.
