More Contest Success!

After a very disappointing National Finals result, the Band answered their critics by gaining a well earned 2nd place in Section A of the Durham County Brass Band Association Competition held on Sunday 26 November. Unfortunately, BHK Horden (UK) Ltd. were disqualified due to a registration irregularity which gave the Band it's first ever Championship Section win.

Performing James Cook Circumnavigator by Gilbert Vinter, the Band gave an excellent performance which gained 188 points from adjudicator Derek Broadbent.

MD Graeme Tindall commented, 'This is a tremendous result for the Band. After the National Finals, we really had to re-group and take notice of the comments made by the adjudicators. We have worked incredibly hard since then and have concentrated on the 'basics'. I now look forward to our assault on next years Regional Championship.'

Band Receives Community Award

Mayor of Gateshead -

Felling Band have been awarded The Gateshead Council Community Award for local organisations within the Borough for 2006. The Band are honoured and proud that their work within the local community has been recognised by Gateshead Council and in particular Mayor Maureen Goldsworthy and her Consort, Bob Goldsworthy.

The entire Band will attend an awards ceremony on January 16th 2007where they will be presented the award by the Mayor.

New Signings In Time for the Nationals

The Band would like to welcome four new players to the ranks in time for their assault on the National Title. Elliott Cook joins the Band on Bb Bass from BHK Horden, Ann Stone joins on 2nd Horn from Greggs Bakery, Jonathan Holden joins on 2nd Cornet from Broughtons Brass and Dave Brocklesby joins on 2nd Trombone.

Our new players have further strenghened our ranks and the Band extends to them the warmest of welcomes.

In Pursuit of National Glory

Harrogate 06

Sunday 24 September will see the Band perform at the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britian held at Harrogate International Conference Centre. The Band are working very hard at the moment and have had an intensive rehearsal schedule to cope with. Musical Director Graeme Tindall said 'I am so impressed with the commitment of my players, they have attended sixteen rehearsals in the last three weeks with very few empty chairs around the stand. This level of committment will surely stand us in good sted for our challenge on the National Title'.

Band Ends Successful Gibside Season

On Sunday 10 September the Band finished another successful season performing at Gibside Chapel near Rowlands Gill. We performed a total of twelve concerts over the summer season which were thorughly appreciated by the audiences. The Band will hand over it's final engagement to The Westoe Band who will perform on our behalf on Sunday 24 September while the Band performs at the National Brass Band Championships on the same day.

Felling Enters the World Brass Band Rankings

After the Band's victory at the North of England Regional Championships, for the first time in our history, the band has entered the World Rankings. We are currently ranked at 191 out of 200 bands from all over the world. This is an acheivement we are extremely proud of. We now plan to improve this positon over the coming months. North of England Area Champions 2006 (1st Section)

On Stage 1

The Felling Band - Playing Their Winning Performance

On Saturday 18th March, the band acheived its ultimate goal by becoming North of England Area Champions. By doing so, the band have been invited to attend the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain held in Harrogate Conference Centre in September. The band's performance was described by adjudicator Brian Buckley as 'a most well prepared, muscial performance'. The band scored 190 points one point behind last years champions, the newly sponsored RMT Easington Colliery Band in second place and four points ahead of the third placed Westoe Band.

Concentration is the Name of the Game!

All soloists performed outstandingly but a special mention must go to Yvonne Malcolm who gave the performance of the day on Soprano, Phil Richardson & David Conway on Euphoniums who played in such a lyrical style and Claire Tennet who produced a wonderful rendition of the horn cadenza and solo.

Not only did the band win the competition their bass section were awarded The Bob Dales Trophy for the best bass section.

Special mention must go to Contest Secretary, Stacey Ghent who sweat blood and tears to make sure everything was organised for the day. Not only is she a superb player, she is a brilliant organiser who apparently is still smiling now!

Mayor of Gateshead's Charity Concert

Sage Gateshead

Saturday 4th March saw the Band appear in Hall 2 at the Sage Gateshead for the Mayor's Charity Concert. The Band were part of a concert called 'Sounds of Felling' which allowed them share the stage with Felling Male Voice Choir. Both organisations performed to a packed audience which included Mayors and dignitaries from many other boroughs. The Band were pleased to play their part in raising £4,200 for charity.

Bouncing Baby for wor Larry!

On Monday 20th February cornet player Larry Sinclair became the proud father of a bouncing baby girl called Emily Elizabeth. The Band extends its congratulations and best wishes to Larry and Gillian.
