On Saturday 14th June, the band will appear with friends The Felling Male Voice Choir and their guests Felling Concert Choir, Low Fell Singers, The Grainger Singers & St. Thomas More Chamber Choir in a concert to celebrate the 10th anniversary of The Angel of the North.
'The Angel' has become synonymous with the pride and culture of the North East of England and in particular Gateshead. Where better to hold a celebratory concert than in one of Europe's finest concert halls, The Sage Gateshead, another cultural initiative that has brought many of the world's top performers to the banks of the River Tyne.
The evening will showcase local talent, with all groups coming from in and around the Gateshead area. The concert will boast a Last Night of the Proms feel featuring each group individually then culminating in a rousing massed finale of Choirs and Band.
It will be a fantastic evening.
Tickets are available from The Sage Box Office on 0191 4434661 at a cost of £10 & £8 or alternatively, you can book online by clicking here

North of England Brass Band Championships 2008
Sunday 30th March was a proud day for all invloved at The Felling Band. After double wins in the first section in 2006 & 2007, the band gained promotion from January 1st 2008 to the Championship Section for the first time in their history.
This years test was Eric Ball's Festival Music, a wonderful piece of music containing lovely melodies in a 'Mozartarian' style which tested all soloists to the extreme, particularly in the second movement entitled Romance.
Being the first time in the Championship Section, the band knew they had to both consolidate their position for next year and also give their best performance, which is exactly what they did.........
Drawn 6th, the band gave a wonderful performance of the piece and come results time, were awarded 3rd prize with 192 points, only 1 point away from a trip to the Royal Albert Hall in October.
1. Reg Vardy, Dr. Nicholas Childs, 5, 194
2. East Yorkshire Motor Services, Dr. Robert Childs, 1, 193

Musical Director Graeme Tindall commented, "Yet again, the band have worked so hard. Their work rate is absolutely second to none and they did everything I asked of them both in the bandroom and on the stand. Each and every soloist were absolutely magnificent today, it really was a pleasure to direct them. I'm so proud of everyone involved, and I'm sure they're proud of themselves".
Meanwhile Iwan Fox from the online brass website had this to say about the band's performance;
"A band that certainly did show rich promise and more was Felling, who deservedly took third place (much to the obvious delight of their young lady band rep who nearly wet herself with unsurpassed glee in accepting the prize on stage) under the baton of the impressive Graeme Tindall.
Theirs was a performance that reeked of hard work and detailed preparation, and an MD who had the confidence in his players to do exactly what he asked of them. It was solid, unpretentious stuff and mirrored the conductors understated approach to the job in hand.
Third place was fully justified, and although they were obviously delighted with the end result, it could on another day have pipped their rivals. The opening ‘Overture’ was neat and precise, the ‘Romance’ solid and secure, whilst the final ‘Impromptu’ may just have needed a touch more rhythmic pulse but was so well controlled right to the end. Felling has come a long way in a short space of time, but they certainly haven’t reached the end of their musical ambitions quite yet on this impressive form."

Commenting on Will's appointment, Graeme said "Will is a fine young player who has already made an impact since his arrival." "Will has had previous experience in the 'hotseat' playing top man for the Roberts Bakery Band." "He is a lovely sounding player who has a lot to offer and I am very much looking forward to working with him in his new capacity."
Meanwhile, the band are also pleased to announce that Ray Cole has joined the band on Assistant Principal Cornet. " It is my hope that Ray can pass on his years of experience at playing at the top level of banding to Will" commented MD Graeme Tindall. "I have known Ray for many years in both the capacity as player and conductor and have the utmost respect for his achievements as a principal cornet player and stand up soloist over the years." " I'm also most grateful that Ray has agreed to step into the breach and play Principal for us at our concert for the Mayor of Sunderland this Saturday (16th February)."
